After saying goodbye to Disney we jumped in our rental JEEP (very tight squeeze but nice) and headed south for Del Mar where Aunt Nena and Uncle Steve were waiting for us! As we drove up they were waiting for us outside and the kids were yelling Nena, Steve!!! We had such a special time with them! After getting settled in at their house, we headed to the beach for some playtime! Oh the kids loved playing in the ocean and sand - they were covered in sand and laughing with joy!

Nen’ did a fabulous job planning some fun things for us to do - we had cocktails and appetizers on the beach one evening, of course I could only enjoy the appetizers, but they were delicious, and hung with some of their friends. This was a real treat because with them living so far away we only hear about some of these people, so it was great to actually get to meet them.

On Saturday we visited Sea Word in the morning which was nice - the Shamu show was our favorite! Late Saturday we headed to the coast for some sight seeing and to show the kids the enormous sea lions that hang there. For dinner Nena made us one the best meals I have had in a long time - it was cooked and served in a pumpkin - truly delicious and of course we had a dessert! One of Nena’s many passions is gourmet cooking - she loves to try new recipes and serve to her friends and family. Of course I’m lucky if I get a meatloaf in the oven for dinner these days, so this was another special treat for us - yummy food!

On Sunday morning we headed over to Torrey Pines Golf Course for brunch - wow....what a scrumptious meal and beautiful view! It sits on the coastal cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It hosts the yearly PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open. It was really neat to be able to visit such a beautiful place. That evening we went to Steve’s parents house for dinner. Practically every Sunday evening they all meet to enjoy an Italian Feast and lucky for us we were in town to experience it. It was delicious in every way and there was more food than I had seen in quite some time. The kids had a great time playing with all the other kiddos in the gigantic sand pit and playing flag football on the turf field in the courtyard...these people love their grandkids and made their home a very special place for them to visit. We also celebrated Nena’s birthday since we were all together and that just made the evening even more special!

On Monday morning we packed up and headed home - it’s always sad when you have to say goodbye. Thankfully we knew we would see them again in the ATL for the holidays. The journey home was easy breezy even though it was super late when we finally arrived at the house....the time change was probably the most difficult thing to overcome but we did it!
What a truly magical vacation!
