Day Three - La Rica
Difficult clinic day - served the small community of La Rica (pop. 3,000). It's a more rural community where access to healthcare is limited. The clinic was in a rustic but traditional Nicaraguan house; made from plank walls and dirt floors. Today was tough. It’s mid-week and many are homesick, fatigue has set in and the sadness begins to make your heart ache. A local dentist served with us and allowed us to use his clinic for pharmacy setup. We referred 37 teeth for extraction which cost $144; in the US this would cost approx. $3700.
Towards the end of the day a nice guy came to see me and Brandon but he wouldn't smile very big. He said, "The sight of my smile makes me sad." It just broke our hearts and so we were on a mission to make his smile better. At the end of the appointment he was so incredibly grateful and smiling!! These are the moments during a tough day that make it all worth it!
Chrissy and Dayna filled 355 prescriptions. Although difficult - God was glorified in a very busy day!
Medical - 145
Dental - 29
Prayer/Salvation – 22
